Memorial Day 2013, kayaking the Wekiva River

We had lots to celebrate on Monday May 27, 2013. Ed was having a birthday party and we were happy to be part of it ;-) and we were celebrating Memorial Day as well. The Lower Wekiva River is made for paddling. It's a nice cruise and we usually see quite a bit of wildlife. Today was no exception, the Swallow-tailed Kites, Limpkins, Sand Hill Cranes and their little ones, were looking for a meal. Several Red-bellied Turtles and River Cooters were out sunning, the Big Gator showed his head and there were a few smaller ones out too. The Immature White Ibis were coming out of their nests and it's good to see them, Great Blue and Little Blue Herons, were scouting for breakfast and the Wild Turkey perched up in the tree was a nice surprise. Being on the river is always a great way to celebrate just about anything!
