Near the Daytona Beach area, the Wekiva River is a beautiful place to kayak - July 13, 2015

Alfredo and Maria from Venezuela and Marc from VT came out this morning for some Wekiva River fun in the sun and we saw lots of good thing going on. A Green Heron sitting motionless on a branch lit off as we approached with his neck out, mohawk up and that distinctive call. The Great Blue and Tri-colored Herons were around the river's edge and the Great Egrets were feeding in the floating mats of vegetation. The Limpkins and Little Blue Herons were also out finding morsels for breakfast. There were several Turtles out sunning and we got to see a few Gators too. The Osprey and Red-shouldered Hawks were spotted doing their thing and the river is at the perfect height for paddling. It's a beautiful time of year to be out on the water and the Lower Wekiva River is a beautiful place to spend the morning.
